A Guide to Standard Poster Sizes and Framing Options

Welcome back to the Lightning Prints blog. On today’s episode, we will be talking about our poster prints. Poster prints are a classic form of marketing. They’re crucial for getting that street-level exposure for your event, product or service. Whether you’re creating posters for a gig, a campaign, or purely for a decorative purposes, you need to consider how big do you want it to be.

The best thing is, they’re not constrained by style or size. Poster prints can range from artwork-heavy and colourful to minimalist and simple. Dive into our guide to poster print sizes and discover the different modes of poster display to help you make the biggest possible impact.

Standard Print Sizes

The dimensions of our standard poster sizes follow A paper sizes, so that’s a good reference point when selecting which one is best for you.

Find out everything you need to know our standard poster sizes below:

Size Width (mm) x Height (mm) Purpose
A2 594 x 420 This is the perfect size for gig and event posters. They can display snippets of information and leave enough room for impressive artwork and imagery.
A1 841 x 594 Our most recommended choice, A1 posters can super-size your message. Large fonts and grand designs are ideal for posters hanging in exhibition halls.
A0 1189 x 841 Over one metre in width, A0 posters can make a big impression on viewers. This size allows for large, eye-catching artwork and has space for lots of information.

You can choose from our standard sizes: A2, A1 and A0. Don't see the sizes you are looking for? Fret not!  For custom dimensions, feel free to direct your request to our email cs.lightningprints@gmail.com or call us at 8874 2567.

Poster Resolution

Aside from the size, the resolution of your poster is also another important factor to consider. Combine the correct size and purposeful artwork with the right resolution and you’ll create wonderful posters that leaves an impression on anyone passing by.

The following sizes are a guide to pixel resolutions required for various print sizes:

Size 150 DPI (Minimum Resolution) 300 DPI (Best Resolution)
A2  2480 x 3508 pixels 4960 x 7016 pixels
A1 3508 x 4967 pixels 7016 x 9933 pixels
A0 4967 x 7022 pixels 9933 x 14043 pixels

Most images are created using a bitmap, or series of dots, and are called raster images. For such images, be sure to check that your image resolution meets the minimum resolution requirements for the size print that you require to prevent image quality loss.

If you wish to be able to resize your images to any dimension without losing quality, we recommend you to create your artworks in vector image formats (AI, SVG and EPS). For vector images, ensure that DPI has been set to 300 for high print quality.
